The Syrian civil war has created an education crisis for the Middle East. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that less than 40 percent of Syrian refugee children are enrolled in formal education. Not only is education of individual Syrian children under threat, but also the future of Syrian and host-country societies—the stability and prosperity of the region will depend on ensuring that school-age children receive the education they need to be resilient to the circumstances they face and have the capability to provide for themselves and their families. While Syria’s future depends upon its children, a lost generation is being created. Given the numbers of Syrian refugee children currently not receiving formal education, the strained capacities of host countries, the political considerations, and the risks posed to children and society at large, there is an urgent need to alleviate this situation with innovative educational strategies to coordinate efforts, share knowledge, make evidence-based decisions, improve efficiency or effectiveness, and solicit resources. Social Circus Trainers Training Program is a project of Art Anywhere Association under the frame of ''Capacity Building Program for local Civil Society Organisations Project'' of International Medical Corps-Turkey, with the support of Swiss Government. By this project we want to include 30 refugee and local youth living in Mardin (age 13-30) to learn social circus and its pedagogy to develop their personal skills by non formal education /peer education methodology. Goals and objectives: - Support refugee and displaced youth to access cultural education and facilitate their transition and integration into the society by giving them a tool which will streng them mentally and physically. - Empower voluntarism of young people to work with many other Syrian children in need and support the sustainability of circus activities in local community. - Creating contact between refugees and people from host communities - Using social circus activities as a common language - Help refugees socialize and express themselves without necessarily speaking the host country language. - Strengthening local trainers/volunteers capacity |
